1. The movement of vehicles for transport of goods with a maximum permissible mass over 12 t, including trailers and semi-trailers, is prohibited on Trakia Motorway, Struma Motorway and National Road I-1 Sofia – Kulata from km 376+100 to km 443+100 on Fridays and Sundays in August 2026, as follows:

      -> Trakia Motorway

      – on Friday, 7.08, 14.08, 21.08 and 28.08.2026 in direction Sofia – Burgas from 16.00 to 20.00 h;

      – on Sunday, 9.08, 16.08, 23.08 and 30.08.2026 in direction Burgas – Sofia from 16.00 to 20.00 h;

      -> Struma Motorway and I-1 Sofia – Kulata Road from km 376+100 to km 443+100

      – on Friday 7.08, 14.08, 21.08 and 28.08.2026 for the direction Sofia – Kulata Border Point from 16.00 to 20.00 h

      – on Sunday 9.08, 16.08, 23.08 and 30.08.2026 for the direction Kulata Border Checkpoint – Sofia from 16.00 to 20.00 h

2. The driving of heavy goods vehicles with a total mass of over 20 t on the roads of the republican road network, with the exception of motorways, is prohibited when air temperatures exceed 35 degrees Celsius and asphalt temperatures exceed 50 degrees Celsius during the time from 13.00 to 20.00 on the territory of the following administrative districts: Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, Razgrad, Targovishte, Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo, Silistra, Haskovo, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv and Stara Zagora.

All times are Eastern European Summer Time (EEST).

The prohibitions under 1. and 2. do not apply to public passenger transport, vehicles transporting dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable food products, temperature-controlled goods and specialized carcass trucks.

The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency informs that from today – 4 August, until 6 August /Thursday/ at air temperatures above 35 degrees from 13:00 to 21:00 Eastern European Summer Time (EEST), the movement of trucks over 20 tons will be temporarily restricted on Trakia, Struma, Evropa and Maritsa motorways along their entire length, and on Hemus motorway in its sections on the territory of the districts of Sofia, Lovech, Targovishte, Shumen and Varna.

The restrictions also apply on the following sections of the Bulgarian road network:
– on road I-1 Vidin – Vratsa on the territory of the districts of Vidin, Montana and Vratsa;
– on road I-2 Ruse – Varna, in sections in the districts of Ruse, Razgrad and Shumen, between km 12 and km 146;
– on road I-3 in the districts of Pleven, Lovech and Veliko Tarnovo in the section between km 7 and km 170, after the road junction for the village of Strahilovo to the region of Yablanitsa;
– on road I-4 from Koritna to Shumen, in the districts of Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte and Shumen;
– on road I-5 in the districts of Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, Stara Zagora and Haskovo. The passage of trucks will be temporarily restricted in the section between km 6 and 115 and in the section after the “Shipka” pass to the area of village of Pchelarovo, between km 170 and km 319, in the districts of Stara Zagora and Haskovo;
– on the road I-6 between the road junction to Kalofer and the road junction “Petolachkata”;
– on the road I-7 Silistra – Shumen, on the territory of both districts;
– on two sections on the road II-55 Debelets – Predela – Gurkovo: from Debelets to the village of Panicherevo and between km 151 and km 186;
– on the road II-66 in the section from the village of Bogomilovo to the road junction of the “Trakia” motorway between km 72 and km 91;
– on road III-663 in the section Chirpan – Celina /between km 0 and km 15/.

The regional departments of the Road Infrastructure Agency are monitoring the weather forecasts and may undertake temporary changes of the traffic organization, in coordination with the Traffic Police.

The restrictions do not apply to vehicles transporting dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable food products and temperature-controlled goods.

As from 1 August 2026, the vignettes prices for vehicles up to 3,5 t will be changed as follows:
– Daily: 5.30 EUR;
– Weekend: 6.60 EUR;
– Weekly: 10.00 EUR;
– Monthly: 19.90 EUR;
– Quarterly: 35.90 EUR;
– Annual: 64.50 EUR.

If a vignette is not obtained when using the paid road network, this is an infringement and a compensatory fee amounting to 46.50 EUR can be paid.

Toll charges remain unchanged.

The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency has announced temporary driving restrictions for trucks over 12 tonnes on 31 July and 2 August 2026 оn:
– Trakia motorway,
– Struma motorway, and
– on road I-1, on the section from Simitli road junction (km 376) to the Kulata border crossing point (with Greece).

The restrictions will apply for both directions of travel:
– on Friday 31 July from 16.00 to 23.00, and
– on Sunday 2 August from 15.30 to 22.00.
All times are Eastern European Summer Time (EEST).

The restrictions do not apply to vehicles over 12 tonnes transporting dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable food products or temperature-controlled goods, as well as specialised carcass trucks and vehicles of road maintenance companies.

– for Trakia motorway: road I-6;
– for Struma motorway and road I-1: road II-19 Simitli–Gotse Delchev, from the junction of road I-1 with road II-19 in Simitli to the intersection with road III-198 in Gotse Delchev, along road III-198 Gotse Delchev–Kulata, to the intersection with road III-1981 in Chuchuligovo, and along road III-1981 to the intersection with road I-1 in Kulata, and back.

The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency has announced temporary traffic restrictions for trucks over 12 tonnes on 24 and 26 July 2026 оn:
– Trakia motorway,
– Struma motorway, and
– on road I-1, on the section from Simitli road junction (km 376) to the Kulata border crossing point (with Greece).

The restrictions will apply for both directions of travel:
– on Friday 24 July from 16.00 to 23.00 (Eastern European Summer Time), and
– on Sunday 26 July from 15.30 to 22.00 (EEST).

The restrictions do not apply to vehicles over 12 tonnes transporting dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable food products or temperature-controlled goods, as well as specialised carcass trucks and vehicles of road maintenance companies.

Recommended alternative routes:
– for Trakia motorway: road I-6;
– for Struma motorway and road I-1: road II-19 Simitli–Gotse Delchev, from the junction of road I-1 with road II-19 in Simitli to the intersection with road III-198 in Gotse Delchev, along road III-198 Gotse Delchev–Kulata, to the intersection with road III-1981 in Chuchuligovo, and along road III-1981 to the intersection with road I-1 in Kulata, and back.

The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency has announced temporary traffic restrictions for trucks over 12 tonnes on 17 July and 19 July 2026 оn Trakia Motorway, Struma Motorway and road I-1.

On Friday 17 July, the restriction will apply from 16:00 to 23:00 (Eastern European Summer Time).

On Sunday 19 July, the restriction will apply from 15:30 to 22:00.

The restriction will apply in both directions. During the restrictions, heavy trucks over 12 tonnes may use alternative routes.

The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency has announced temporary traffic restrictions for trucks over 12 tonnes on 10 and 12 July 2026 to facilitate weekend travel and improve road safety in the afternoon and evening hours.

The restrictions will apply on the following sections of the national road network:

• the Struma Motorway; and
• road I-1 through the Kresna Gorge, from the Simitli road junction (km 376) to the Kresna road junction on the Struma Motorway (km 402).

On Friday – 10 July 2026, the restriction will apply from 16:00 to 23:00 (Eastern European Summer Time) for heavy trucks travelling in the direction of the Kulata Border Crossing Point.

On Sunday – 12 July2026, the restriction will apply from 15:30 to 22:00 for heavy trucks travelling in the direction of Sofia.

For vehicles travelling to and from the Kulata border point, the bypass route is:

• road II-19 Simitli – Gotse Delchev, from the junction of road I-1 with road II-19 in Simitli to the intersection with road III-198 in Gotse Delchev, along road III-198 Gotse Delchev – Kulata, to the intersection with road III-1981 in Chuchuligovo; and along road III-1981 to the intersection with road I-1 in Kulata, and back (see the attached map – the bypass is marked in green).

The restrictions do not apply to vehicles over 12 tonnes carrying out public passenger transport, or to vehicles transporting dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable food products or temperature-controlled cargo, as well as specialised carcass trucks and vehicles of road maintenance companies.

The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency informs that today, July 3, and on Sunday, July 5, to facilitate travel during the weekend and to increase safety in the afternoons, the movement of heavy trucks over 12 tons will be temporarily restricted on the following sections of the national road network:

• on the Trakia Motorway,
• on the Struma Motorway, and
• on road I-1 through the Kresna Gorge in the section from the Simitli road junction (km 376) to the Kresna road junction on the Struma Motorway (km 402).

On Friday, July 3, the restriction will apply from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. (Eastern European Summer Time) for heavy trucks traveling in the direction of Burgas and the Kulata Border Crossing Point.

On Sunday, July 5, the restriction will apply from 3.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. for heavy trucks traveling in the direction of Sofia.

The restriction does not apply to road vehicles over 12 tons that carry out public passenger transport, as well as to motor vehicles that transport dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable food products and temperature-controlled cargo, and specialised carcass trucks and vehicles of road maintenance companies.

During this time, drivers of heavy-duty trucks over 12 tons traveling in the direction of Burgas can use the I-6 Sub-Balkan Road as an alternative route.

For the vehicles concerned traveling to and from the Kulata border point, the bypass route is along road II-19 Simitli – Gotse Delchev – from the road junction of road I-1 with road II-19 in the town of Simitli to the intersection with road III-198 in the town of Gotse Delchev, along road III-198 Gotse Delchev – Kulata to the intersection with road III-1981 in the village of Chuchuligovo and along road III-1981 to the intersection with road I-1 in the village of Kulata and back.

All drivers can also use other sections of the republican road network, observing the permanent traffic organization in force for them.

The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency informs that on June 30 and July 1, due to the expected high temperatures above 35 degrees, the movement of trucks over 20 tons will be restricted between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on certain sections of the national road network in 15 districts. These are: Sofia, Ruse, Silistra, Razgrad, Targovishte, Shumen, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo, Sliven, Stara Zagora, Vidin, Montana and Vratsa. The vehicles will wait outside the roadway in certain places, without hindering other road users.

The restriction does not apply to trucks transporting perishable foods, temperature-controlled cargo, live animals and dangerous goods (ARD).

Further details:

– On the Hemus Motorway, at air temperatures above 35 degrees, the movement of vehicles over 20 tons will be temporarily restricted in sections of the motorway in the districts of Sofia, Lovech and Targovishte.

– In the afternoon, between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m., the movement of trucks over 20 tons on the I-1 Vidin – Vratsa road will be restricted in the districts of Vidin, Montana and Vratsa. In Vidin district, the restriction will be at force also on the section of road II-11 Dunavtsi – Dobri Dol /from km 0 to km 23/ and on road III-112 Dobri Dol – Topolovets /from km 0 to km 10/.

– Traffic will also be temporarily restricted on a section of road I-6 from the Kalofer turnoff to the “Petolachkata” road junction.

– In Stara Zagora district, the passage on road I-5 Gabrovo – Kazanlak will be temporarily restricted in the section from the border with Gabrovo district at the “Shipka” pass to the village of Byal Izvor /from km 170 to km 266/. There will also be a restriction for heavy goods traffic on road II-66 in the section from the village of Bogomilovo to the road junction of the “Trakia” motorway in the area of the village of Svoboda /from km 72 to km 91/. The passage of trucks will also be temporarily suspended on the third-class road III-663 in the Chirpan – Celina section /from km 0 to km 15/.

– On June 30 and July 1 in the afternoon hours at temperatures above 35 degrees, between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m., the movement of trucks over 20 tons will be temporarily restricted and on road sections in Northern Bulgaria – in the districts of Ruse, Silistra, Razgrad, Targovishte, Shumen, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Lovech and Gabrovo.

– There will be restrictions on the movement of heavy trucks on the first-class road I-2 Ruse – Varna, in the sections in the districts of Ruse, Razgrad and Shumen, from km 12 to km 146.

– In the districts of Pleven, Lovech and Veliko Tarnovo, traffic will be restricted on the I-3 road in the section from km 7 to km 170, after the road junction for the village of Strahilovo to the Yablanitsa region.

– The passage of heavy trucks over 20 tons will also be temporarily suspended on the I-4 road from Koritna to Shumen, which passes through the districts of Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte and Shumen.

– Restrictions will also be introduced on the I-5 Ruse – Gabrovo road, in the section from km 6 to km 115, passing through the districts of Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo. Truck traffic will also be stopped on the II-55 Debelets – Predela – Gurkovo road, in the section from Debelets to the village of Panicherevo. The section is on the territory of the districts of Veliko Tarnovo and Stara Zagora.

– The movement of vehicles over 20 tons will be temporarily restricted on the I-7 Silistra – Shumen road, on the territory of both districts.
