Urban Access Restrictions in Sofia for buses and coaches

The borders of the zone Center are as follows: Opalchenska str. – Slivnitza bld. – Gen. Danail Nikolaev bld. – Evlogui Gueorguiev bld. – Bulgaria bld. – Pencho Slaveikov bld. – Gen. Totleben bld. – Gen. Skobelev bld. – Opalcheska str.
(N.B.: The zone do not include the streets mentioned above, but only the area bordered by these streets.)
To visit hotels and tourist sites in the restricted area, it is necessary to obtain a route scheme for buses and coaches with more than 22 seats, carrying out tourist transport.
This route scheme can be valid 24 hours or 1 month (for entry of buses and coaches in regard to the organization of cultural and public events – concerts, theatre performances, government/representative events, children’s and educational programs, etc.)*, or 3 months (for entry of buses and coaches performing occasional passenger transport for tourist visits and sightseeing tours in the city of Sofia).
It can be obtained by submitting an application together with copies of the vehicle registration certificate(s) and a copy of the company passenger transport licence to the Transport Department of Sofia Municipality, 17, Budapesta str., 6th floor, Sofia, BG-1000. Applications can only be submitted by a Bulgarian entity. Therefore, we advise foreign transport operators to ask their partners in Sofia (tour operators, hotels) to obtain the permit on their behalf.
