Motorways
The combined length of the motorways in Bulgaria is 1089 km, comprising 339.5 km in operation, 44 km at different construction stages and 705.5 km in the stage of preliminary studies and design, of which 223 km of completed design documentation. The “Trakia” Motorway - is of 368.5 km total length. It is the main route in the central part of Bulgaria and provides the most direct connection between Sofia-Plovdiv-Burgas. It is part of the Trans- European Corridor No VIII and of the “North-South” Trans-European Motorway (TEM).
The “Maritsa” Motorway - is of 112 km total length. It is the main route for the traffic flow in the direction Plovdiv-“Kapitan Andreevo” CBCP. The motorway is part of the Trans- European Corridor No IV and of the “North-South” Trans-European Motorway (TEM).
The “Hemus” Motorway - the total length consists of 424.5 km. It runs through the northern part of the country and provides a direct link between Sofia and Varna. The motorway forms the Northern Loop of the Bulgarian motorway network, which is meant to carry the international traffic in the direction “West-East”.
The “North-South” Trans-European Motorway (TEM) - is of 81 km total length. Part of TEM “Kalotina Sofia - Sofia Ring Road” is a crossroad to the traffic coming from North and East Europe.
The “Cherno more” Motorway - is of 103 km total length, of which 11 km are in operation and 92 km are at design stage. It carries out the connection between Burgas and Varna - the biggest Seaports of Bulgaria.
